Waiting For Fall | Cropped Top + Ripped Skinny Jeans + Ankle Boots

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

Hey there, hi there! I finally went back to yoga this week after taking a (pretty dang long) break ever since we moved to La Jolla. Can I just tell you how freaking sore I am?! Even though it's been a couple of months since my last class, and I knew I wouldn't be able to hop right back in where I left off, I was shocked at just how quickly I lost some strength (and just how achy I would be the following day)! I'm definitely going to let this serve as a reminder to myself not to skip workouts for weeks at a time anymore - no excuses!

I wore this outfit last weekend because, despite the fact that we are well into October at this point, it was still 80 degrees here in SoCal. I refused to wear a straight-up summery outfit though, so I paired this lightweight crop top with fall-y ankle boots. It made my stubbornness/denial for the lack of autumn weather subside... temporarily. I am back to anxiously awaiting sweater weather pretty fiercely.

Cardi Party | Cardigan + Tee + Boyfriend Jeans + Sneakers

Sunday, October 8, 2017

Happy Sunday! How's ya weekend been? Yesterday was so warm here that we were back in shorts, which felt a bit alarming. Thankfully it quickly went back down to the 70s today, though, which means I can kinda-sorta get away with wearing a cardigan. This off-white cardigan is lightweight and perfect for when it's almost #sweaterweather. Sign me up, baby! (And really, please sign me up for true autumn coolness, Mother Nature. Any day now...)

All Wrapped Up | Lace-Up Sweater + Ripped Jeans + d'Orsay Flats

Thursday, October 5, 2017

Happy October - AKA the best month of them all! Matt and I kicked off this month with a trip to Idyllwild to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We had the absolute best and most relaxing time cuddling up by the fire in our A-frame cabin, hiking in the crisp autumn air with our dogs, and eating so much delicious vegan food at Plant Food Supper Club (we literally ate there three times). All of the outdoor time somehow got me even more psyched for fall, which I didn't think was possible!

White sweater with lace-up black ribbon detail: c/o Simply Be
This sweater is officially my favorite fall top! It's lightweight yet warm, simple yet interesting, and cozy yet can be dressed up, too. I seriously LOVE it. I am also seriously loving Simply Be, which is a clothing website that offers sizes 4-28. Therefore, no matter what your body type, you'll find something cute to wear this season!
(Be sure to check back because I'll be featuring more Simply Be pieces in future posts!)

I apologize for the excessive amounts of photos in today's post... 😳  I just couldn't help myself with that beautiful backdrop! They were taken in Idyllwild at a place called Indian Vista Scenic Overlook.  The mountain views with the leaves changing color on all sides were like something out of a storybook. Matt and I kept saying how we so badly want to buy a cabin there so we can have retreat from the city. Sigh, one day.

(PS: Stay tuned because I plan to share a weekend travel guide to Idyllwild on LunaVida soon!)

Fashionista Feature | Sustainable Vegan Fall Fashion

Wednesday, October 4, 2017

Hi, today I have an exciting guest post by Rhonda of Redemption Market! Redemption Market is "a boutique featuring a variety of fair trade gifts, who chooses only the highest quality products, focusing on sustainability and ethical treatment of the designers and artisans." The store is located in my previous home of Phoenix, Arizona but you can also shop it online.

Scroll down to check out Rhonda's wise words on the importance of ethical fashion and her favorite vegan fall purses available now at Redemption Market.

Looking forward to cooler weather and fall fashion? A stunning handbag is the one statement piece that can give any outfit that wow factor. Unfortunately, many of the choices offered today are either harmful to the environment or cruel to animals.

The good news is that today’s shopper doesn’t need to compromise her/his values to stay in style. Because consumers have spoken up and have voted with their dollars, fashion designers are responding with more ethical choices.

Perhaps when you hear the term “vegan leather,” you remember the plastic-like vinyl options of the past. Well, let me tell you, artificial leather has come a long way! No longer is it the stiff cracked pleather that we knew in the 80s. In fact, advances in technology have made it almost indistinguishable from regular leather. And the best part is that a vegan handbag is also less expensive than its leather counterpart.

Before making a purchase, it is important to do a little homework, though.

1. Look for sustainable choices. Do you know that purses are now made from revolutionary materials like cork, kelp, bark cloth, glazed organic cotton, and even pineapple leaves? Also,
consider pre-owned bags. Vintage and thrift shops offer unique finds that are zero impact on the environment.

2. Be wary of materials that are only partially animal-friendly. These would include any kind of layered processing: material made with a thin layer of leather bonded to a synthetic material.
Code terms in the industry for this include “bicast,” “bistack,” and “split leather.”

3. Read the label and understand the difference between PVC and PU vegan leather. PVC (or
polyvinyl chloride) is a synthetic plastic polymer that is highly polluting to the environment. PU is a degradable polyurethane, and much more desirable than PVC. Again, just make sure it’s not bicast.

4. Be prepared to share your positive experience. Let people know your bag is vegan and that there are many sustainable alternatives to leather, and that the bags are also on-trend. You might find that others are inspired enough to make some changes in their own closets as well.

As an added bonus, there are a number of social enterprises making vegan handbags. These are businesses who are interested not only in making a beautiful product, but also in bringing about social change. One example of this would be JOYN Handbags, based out of a small Himalayan town in India. Not only do they make remarkable purses, they are also bringing dignified employment, health care, and education to some of the most marginalized people on the planet. The products featured in this post are PU vegan leather, handcrafted by JOYN, and available at Redemption Market.

Thank you so much to Rhonda for sharing her knowledge and passion for sustainable, ethical, and vegan fashion. I'll be sure to use her advice the next time I'm in the market for a new vegan handbag and I hope you will, too!

A Crop, Skip, and Jump Away | Crop Top + Ripped Jeans + Converse Sneakers

Thursday, September 28, 2017

Hey there, I hope your week has been going well. This one has flown by! That's totally fine with me though, because this weekend is mine and Matt's 10 year anniversary! We are headed to an A-frame cabin in the woods of Idyllwild with the pups. I can't wait to get away and celebrate a decade together with my boothang, hike a little, eat a lot, relax by the fire, and partake in all those good things that the mountains bring to one's soul. There is even a local vegan restaurant in town that just so happens to be hosting an autumnal equinox six-course dinner, so we of course had to buy tickets. We are ready to CHOW DOWN. And if there is one thing Matt and I have bonded over over the course of the past ten years, it is eating. We are champion eaters. 🏆

It's mind-blowing that Matt and I have been together for a decade. We always joke that things must be going well, because it doesn't seem like our relationship has been 35.71% of our lives at all (which it has) - and as we all know "times flies when you're having fun." Really though, I'm so grateful for you and our life together, Matty. I can't wait for 10 x 10 more years (because we're going to live that long, and so will our pets... obviously).
