Mellow Yellow: Tank Top + Boyfriend Jeans + Flat Espadrilles

Thursday, June 30, 2016

Hi there! Can I start off by saying how sorry I am for my serious absence from LunaVida? Time has gotten away from me lately, man. However, it was well worth it, because most of last week was spent back home in Ohio with my family. I flew back for a quick trip, because my oldest sister is pregnant with her first baby! It was such a fun, Midwestern-tastic, long weekend. I spent time meandering around my old hometown, riding roller coasters and getting our [adult] faces painted as sparkly kitty cats... and then walking around in large amusement park crowds of people with my brothers and sister at King's Island (big ups to my first job ever in the game department at KI at age 15, by the way), and celebrating my sister's baby shower. Ya know, I was really just enjoying the simple life, being back in a small town. Don't get me wrong - I love me a big city, but sometimes you just need to go back to the place where you can actually see stars and lightning bugs (AKA Ohio).

Is there anything more refreshing than a trip back to your hometown? Where do you call "home?" I wasn't born in Loveland, but that is where I spent most of my formative years; thus, it will always be "home" to me. I always get so nostalgic for bonfires, the bike trail, and skipping rocks on the river whenever I am back... Le sigh.

Simply Summer: Dress + Denim Jacket + Sandals

Tuesday, June 14, 2016

Hello, hello. How is everyone holding up this week? Personally, the past few days have been pretty rough (hence the lack of blog posts). At the forefront of my mind, of course, like most Americans, is Orlando. I still can't wrap my mind around this tragedy. I have family and friends who live there. I went to college just two hours away. I spent many, many weekends visiting my sister in Orlando when she lived there... It just hits really close to home. I can't fathom how someone could have so much hatred in them. Moments like this remind us how important it is to take care of and love each other - and not just our family and friends. We need to show love for our neighbors, coworkers, people in the checkout line at the grocery store - everyone deserves love. Everyone has the possibility to make the world a better place. Those innocent people and their families did not and do not deserve this. It's not much to offer, but I hope they can take solace in the fact that they are all in our thoughts - all throughout the world.

This week reminded me that being a real life, responsibility-ridden, working adult can be tough sometimes. We had two separate floods in our house [yes, you read the correctly -- two entirely separate incidents from pipes in our house that resulted in huge floods inside our home] over the past week, and now the backside of our house is currently torn apart and wide open from a cracked pipe in our kitchen wall. Needless to say, these occurrences have been the source of many recent headaches; however, none of these trivial "problems" are really problems at all when I get my mind in the proper perspective and realize just how lucky I am to even have a roof over my head and a house (albeit one that is currently a disaster) to complain about. Makes me thank my lucky stars.

Cup of Tee: Striped Top + Skinny Jeans + Wedges + Clutch

Monday, June 6, 2016

Hi there! Do you remember a time when t-shirts were just that? Just straight up, ordinary tees, and nothing more. Nowadays every article of clothing seems to have some sort of special detail or embellishment. Take this striped top, for example. The back is crisscrossed. I just love how it looks relatively ordinary from the front, but the back has a little more interest. Seriously, this trend of "business in the front, and party in the back" is one I am totally on board with.

Do you have any items of clothing in your own closet that have any unexpected details, like a cutout in the back or an inconspicuous distressed hem? In my opinion, those sorts of details always make the most typical looking outfit juuust a bit more fun.
